I get spontaneous broken blood vessels in my fingers with no trauma to the finger when this happens. What could be causing this?

I feel the heat and pain while it is bleeding out and making a bruise.  There is no trauma.    I take medication for Hyper-thyroidism.  Could this be causing it?
