A few weeks before Easter I received some samples of gluten free BISCOTTEA® to try (they also make a non gluten free version). It came in 3 flavors: Blueberry Tea Shortbread, Chai Tea Shortbread, and Earl Gray Tea Shortbread. I was so excited to try these and was hopeful that by the look of them that they would really taste like shortbread (I love shortbread cookies and have missed those!).
The information says:
BISCOTTEA® is baked with organic and all-natural ingredients and combines the richness of a traditional Scottish shortbread recipe with the health attributes of the teas which are baked into each BISCOTTEA® square.
The ingredients listed are gluten free, but it does say that the cookies are manufactured on shared equipment. Due to the severity of my sons wheat, rye, barley, and oat allergies, I decided that it was better if he didn't eat these. So I had them all to myself (insert evil laugh here).
They were really good and really did taste like a shortbread cookie. The first one I tried was the blueberry and I really enjoyed them and wished I had more. The cookies had a buttery flavor to them even though there is no butter or dairy in them. They were light and just a really tasty cookie.
The next flavor to try was the Chai Tea. Again very tasty and I'm sad that they are gone.
I saved the Earl Grey for last and although still tasty, these were my least favorite of the flavors.
For a second opinion, I did let the husband have a bite and he thought they were delicious too.
I really enjoyed these cookies and highly recommend them! I will be getting more of these. Even though my son can't eat them due to shared equipment, they are a safe treat that I can have on hand that I enjoy and I don't have to worry eggs or nuts being a cross contamination issue either (they are also free of those allergens).
Now that I'm gluten free, I will be keeping these on hand for a treat for myself for sure.
