Restaurant and Food services

Posted Dec 14 2008 12:20am
Canadian Restaurant and Food services started the Allergy Aware Program where restaurants have to at least list one of the following:

  • Complete a food allergy chart for at least three main menu items
  • Complete ingredient information on at least three main menu items
  • Complete ingredient information on at least three special meals (i.e. prepackaged or sous vide dinners accompanied by a precise list of ingredients)

Some restaurants list the above in the restaurant, others on line. Sounds good, but not all staff are “Allergy Aware” and not all restaurants participate, or list cross contamination risks. It is as always up to you to determine what is safe.

Of interest the Canadian Restaurant and Food services produced this booklet available on-line Food Allergies and Foodservice Industry.
