What should I do about this itchy rash on upper body and crotch area?

Posted by Gary

I am a 65 year old male and very healthy and do not take any medications.  I take a multi-vit.min everyday.  But I got the Shingles vaccine 2 months ago and every since then I have had this rash that itches very badly.  Lanocane helps a little but I want to get rid of it.  What to do?  Thank you, Gary

Hi Gary,

Itchy rash usually means some sort of allergy. I wonder if it is from contact with something in your laundry detergent, soap or other. Since it started after the shingles vaccine, I also wonder about some sort of allergy to that, of course.

If you really want to knock it out, call your doctor and report this. You can get a prescription to take that will get rid of it. Usually, very itchy rashes that persist require something more than just over the counter antihistamines like Benadryl or even Claritin.

Of course, with your doctor's guidance, you could even try one of those. Zyrtec is a powerful antihistamine also. I think your doctor will want to see the rash, but start with a phone call.
