Well right now it's hiding in the back of my refrigerator. Do you read labels on fresh meat? Normally I don't. I mean I know that when you buy those bulk chicken breast packs from Sam's Club they freeze the chicken breasts with chicken broth and "stuff". So we don't buy those. I only buy Amish or organic fresh chicken. Well, today I deviated from my shopping plan to try and save money.
Let me start off by saying that I'm not a fan of
Wal-Mart because right or wrong, in my mind they ecelerated the whole "send all U.S. jobs to China" thing (Don't slam me. I'm allowed to have an opinion). But with the economy the way it is and the need for everyone to save money I thought I'd try shopping at our new Super Wal-Mart today. Let me also say that I didn't really save much money. But I did get a good buy on some steaks. I bought a 3 pack of steaks and an extra one for good measure. As I was putting the steaks in the fridge, I noticed in teeny tiny little print on one of the many stickers on the package it said "Tenderness and Moistness enhanced by up to 8% flavoring solution".

And I thought "What the..."? So I flipped the packaged over and sure enough it has an ingredient list that says Ingredients: Beef, Beef Broth, Potassium Lactate, Potassium Phosphate, Sodium Phosphate, Salt, Natural Flavorings, Ascorbic Acid

The single steak I bought is just that - beef and only beef with nothing added. Even without the added risk of food allergies I really don't want anything added to my beef Thank You Very Much. I can enhance it myself. But this adds a whole new level to my food allergy awareness. I never really thought to read labels on steaks. But now I will.
I'm waiting for a call back from Wal-Mart Corporate about what all this stuff is. Even if the Little Man eats the single non-tainted steak, I don't want the other ones to contaminate my grill. I have a feeling my good deal on steaks from Wal-Mart will be a great deal for our extended family members.
***And I scheduled the milk challenge today. They only do them on Fridays so the next available date was December 5th. That happens to be my birthday so lets hope I get the best birthday present a mom could ask for.
