hmm, that'd be a good band name...
focus, andy focus! anyway, gabriele had her fifth infusion on friday, and because she had not inproved over her baseline measure, she was able to get the actual medication! yay!
so what does that mean? it means she will be feeling better [hopefully] very soon. the research staff said that everyone that is receiving this particular drug [at their location, at least] has responded well to it, and that they typically report feeling better within a few days after receiving it. of course, this varies from person to person, so we'll see how it goes.
a confounding variable in this for gabs is that on saturday afternoon or evening she was bitten by a spider on her left knee, so it's all swollen and painful right now. we didn't see the spider that did the actual dirty deed, so we're not sure what kind it was, but based on the fact that we were in oklahoma city, there's a good chance it was a brown recluse. she was bitten by one several years ago and didn't develop an oh-so-nasty wound like
this one (CAUTION - it's gross). so far, the current bite is just red and swollen and painful, but no blister or necrotic tissue, and it's been three days, so that's good. poor girl can't catch a break.
i'll post pics tonight of gabriele getting the infusion, for your viewing pleasure.
