Cooking GFCFSF in Real Life

Posted Nov 04 2009 10:01pm

Did you know that the magazine Living Without uses regular food on their covers? Last month they had this delicious looking french bread on the cover, it sure did look gluteny... That's because it was! It was regular french bread on the cover of a magazine that is supposed to be supporting those of us who cannot replicate such gluten goodness.

See the bagels this month? I bet you anything they are NOT gluten free. I tried making them and they do not look at all like the cover, far from it. They taste ok, well sort of. I was following the directions and then it started heading into a disaster and so I stopped and went another direction.

This is how they looked before I put them in the oven to rise:

After the rising, the instructions said to boil them in hot water for 30 seconds on each side. Well they started to fall apart and turn into something akin to dumplings and so I stopped that and just stuck them all in the oven.

Here is how they turned out:

Need to see the cover again?

I'll tell you what the family says about the taste after breakfast tomorrow. Maybe I'll go and hide that magazine cover before they see it...

:)
