Probiotics and obesity

It seems every day we get more good news about probiotics. I came across an article from the March 7 edition of FASEB Journal where one study indicates a relationship between gut micoflora, metabolism and glucose equilibrium. In the study, lean participants (mice) and their gut microflora were compared to obese participants (also mice). It seems gut microflora helps regulate how the human body uses insulin.
Also, in a paper published in Nature in December of 2006, it was reported that once obese people lost weight, their gut microflora reverted to what was observed in a lean person.
Look for more news about the relationship between a healthy metabolism and gut microflora in the coming months.
Ascential Bioscience has two probiotics: UltraNutrients has a probiotic complex of lactobacillus acidophilus, bifidobacterium bifidus and streptococcus thermophilus. Probiotic Plus delivers lactobacillusacidophilus and bifidobacterium as well as Ascential Peripro which contains Triphala, Asparagus root powder, Organic Yellow Dock powder, Organic Rhubarb root powder, Papain, and Bromelain to help with waste removal.
