I have found that acai in any form triggers short episodes of hypomania for me. I have a panic disorder too and am caffeine sensitive, which may make me more sensitive. Research I've done indicates that the thermogenic/fat burning qualities of acai can raise your heart rate and blood pressure if you're sensitive. So can pomegranate, and large servings of blueberries.
Acai drinks make me hypomanic and agitated--even the ones without green tea extract (Vitamin Water "XXX", included). Large servings of blueberries for dessert keep me awake for hours, as do small servings of pomegranate.
The caffeine in coffee and pseuphedrine (Sudafed--original formulation) are the only other things that cause the same level of agitation and hypomania for me.
A food/mood log is the best way to figure out what foods/supplements are your particular triggers. We all know that different meds work differently for sufferers of bipolar disorder, so it logically follows that some "power-house" foods can affect us differently. It certainly can't hurt to track your diet and mood changes to find potential food triggers, if you are concerned. A foo/mood log can help you discuss your concerns with your doctor.
