The other great flood of 2008

Posted Nov 19 2008 7:06am
It is no secret that Trinidad is a dry weather country. Even though we have two seasons, the second of which being the WET or RAINY season, no infrastructure was ever put in place to deal with rain. It takes only two minutes of rain for the capital city of Port of Spain to be flooded. There was apprently nation wide flooding yesterday due to continuous rain fall. People were stuck in traffic for hours, one little girl died when her house was taken by a mud slide, not to mention all the others left homeless and the farmers who lost tens of thousands of dollars worth of crops.

I was home ill yesterday but I got these pictures this morning of Barataria roundabout, my preferred route on the way home.

Note to self, always take highway when its raining.

Its almost funny that this kind of thing happens every year and every year people are amazed. Every year people want to know why nothing was done during the dry season to prevent this and every year people proclaim it an act of God. Me? I just wonder why I didn't become a civil engineer so I could "dig the government's eye out" offering up my services to help solve the problem.

This my friends is a road
