How Does A Sense of Humor Begin?

Posted Oct 30 2008 3:24pm

How many of you remember your first big laugh? Or remember a particulary hilarious skit on TV that has stayed with you forever?

I do!

Now, I know most of you probably won't think the following is funny, but please forgive me. A young humor age is really not that sophisticated - hopefully, my laugh buttons have gotten better as time has gone on.

I was not more than ten years old, watching TV with my family. My guess is that this was the old Jackie Gleason Show, which I loved. I think Jackie Gleason was absoulutely one of the best comics of all time.

A man was lying in his bathtub, relaxing after a hard day at work. Humming to himself, puffing up the bubbles, smiling contentedly. The water was running so he decided to use his foot to turn off the water. When, what happened? Well, if you have watched any slapstick in the past 20 years, you might have already guessed. He got his toes caught in the bathroom faucets.

Of course, the hilarity followed while the comic tossed and turned trying to remove his toes from the tub faucets.

Maybe you had to be there. I was, and still think it was pretty funny!
