numb tongue spread to face very quickly, only on right side

Posted by KWB

Please, anyone who can attempt to answer me, please do.  I'm 28, in great health, have a regular, healthy diet, and no history of this: the right side of my face, starting in the right back of my tongue, went completely numb, spreading quickly up my face through my forehead.  I got very dizzy and had to sit down, and as the numbness faded away over the next half hour, the pressure built in the right side of my head.  Moving around, especially quickly, was making me dizzy, so I went to the doctor who referred me to a neurologist.  She's ordering an MRI which I won't get for probably three more days, so I went ahead and went to the ER for a CT scan.  The CT scan showed that the right side of my brain was a little swollen, but my blood work and chest x-rays came back fine.  It's been 3 days now, and I still have a dull pain in my right forehead, but no numbness has come back.  I got a tinge of numbness on my tongue and the tip of my nose a few hours after the initial attack, but nothing else.  When I lay down, I feel like the right-sided headache spreads to the left a little.  Also, if I focus on something minor, like trying to text message or picking my cuticle, my vision will blur a little and I can't focus without hurting my head.  Does this sound like anything to worry about?  It truly scared the hell out me because nothing at all like this has ever happened to me, and I would have called EMS if I had been by myself... Any feedback please:)

Ok, so just in case anyone every has this same problem: I had my MRI on Monday, and my neurologist met with me Wednesday morning and said everything looked great except my sinuses!  She said my outer sinuses (there's some technical word for those that I can't remember) are so enlarged that they put pressure on my brain, causing it to swell and push on a nerve.  So, I'm taking Tylenol Cold & Sinus, daytime and nighttime, and I already feel less light-headed after just yesterday and this morning.  I'm not 100%, but my Dr. said it should clear up in 2-3 weeks, and if not, I'd just get it all drained at an ENT.  As I said before, this came out of nowhere, no illness or pain at all, just a sudden numbness; hope this helps for anyone else this might happen too!
