What is tomography? Is the procedure safe?

My daughter has periodic headaches and some doctors say that she has a migraine, others advise to check her head using tomography to see is there any tumor. I am afraid of side effects of this procedure.
Is there any side effects of tomographic procedure or it is absolutely safe, as some doctors say?
