A second opinion.

Posted Oct 05 2009 10:03pm
It's been almost exactly three years since Phil's pulmonary embolism, which was essentially the precursor to his multiple myeloma diagnosis. So... thanks PE? I guess?

We've scheduled our visit to Arkansas for a second opinion. Just to be clear, we love love love our team at U of M. We believe they are competent and skilled and progressive. But we want to avoid blindly following a general protocol which seems fine when there may be something even better-suited to our unique situation. And Arkansas seems to look at every facet of the whole picture. So, Phil and I will be heading down next weekend while wonderful grandparents care for our children. Still trying not to think about being away from them for an entire week... and really not thinking about what will happen if we decide to go the Arkansas route. (We've never once felt sorry for ourselves or thought that we somehow deserve to be spared the bad stuff in life but when I think of the impact on my children... that's when I start to sink into the depths of "Why us? Why now?". So, I just don't think about it.)

We'll try to give updates from Little Rock. Thanks for tuning in.
