Well, after a marathon
SEVEN whole days at home, Vivienne was admitted from her trip to the Medicine Room yesterday afternoon. The cause of the admission was the much-expected "
febrile neutropenia."
Once again, Vivienne is being treated with
Cefepime, blood cultures have been taken and we are waiting for results. If her fever spikes high (like it has
twice in the
past ),
Vancomycin will be added. There is no reason to expect she has an infection at this point, because her admission yesterday was consistent with past experience. Right now, it appears perhaps we have acted quickly and, like
last month, avoided the worst of it.
With that in mind, we expect her to be inpatient for a few days until she has negative cultures (which we expect from the start), is afebrile (normal temperature) for 24 hours without tylenol and has an
ANC above 500. This is likely to happen before the end of the week, if past history is our guide, leaving her counts comfortably high for Christmastime.
