Eating Again

Posted Jan 14 2009 8:35pm

The EGD results were somewhat confusing. There were areas in the stomach that "had the appearance of GVHD", but the biopsies showed neither GVHD or CMV. So, empirically, Richard was then started on prednisone 70 mg daily because his clinical presentation was consistent with GVHD.

And it helped! He started eating again...Whoppers from Burger King, fish sandwiches from McDonalds. We actually had meals together. And even better, he started cooking again. Before the transplant, Richard had done all the cooking because he got home from work two hours earlier than I did. It was really nice to come home and find supper waiting or at least in progress. I had really missed that.

Because of all that prednisone, his blood sugars went a little crazy, but were easily controlled with some sliding scale insulin.

He also gained some weight. He ballooned up into the 140's. Things were looking up.
