Comment Spam

I really do get the email spam thing.  I’m sure people fall for that sometimes.  What I don’t understand is comment spam.  Why?   What advantage does that give the spammer?  More links?  Is there someone smarter out there that can tell me why we have to be annoyed by this stuff?
