Glutino Frozen French Toast

Posted Aug 14 2008 12:20pm

I've seen these in the grocery store for weeks on end and I have been dying to try them. Even the box looked so good. I am a huge lover of French Toast. It completes me. It makes my Sunday mornings happy. It makes my mouth melt from the cinnamon sweetness. I can just imagine that sweet bread dipped in an egg bath and lightly fried on the griddle... dusted with cinnamon and covered in syrup and butter.

Fast forward the year I have been living gluten and dairy free and I have not had french toast save the moments of weakness where I ordered it...and paid for it dearly. Stomach aches and massive headaches. I decided that it wasn't worth it. To be miserable just for a taste of my favorite treat.

So Glutino created the French Toast in a box, ready for me to try!

I prepared them according to the package. Preheated my oven and popped them in there on parchment paper. The smell was amazing. This reminded me of my own special recipe for cinnamon French Toast. It was perfect! When they were done I could hardly wait to eat them. I drizzled some syrup on them and went to town. First bite was heaven just because I was eating something GF/DF and it was yummy! Second bite I really paid attention...

The bread was a little bit chewy on the second bite- and it did remind me of the typical gluten free bread. I do not mind this taste or texture, but to the non-gluten free foodie- it will be different. The taste was SWEET! I was thrilled! Glutino really captured the flavor of French Toast- light, sweet, cinnamon-y and overall delish.

For a treat when you need it on a lazy Sunday morning where you have no on-hand GF bread to use... try this breakfast out. My only concern was the size of the bread. I could have eaten 4 pieces for breakfast (healthy appetite?) and I was stopped by the 420 calorie count on 2 pieces. Four pieces would have brought me up to 840 calories... about half of what I am supposed to eat for the whole day. Yikes. So indulge- just be warned. Portion control!

I'm a horrible photographer (really I swear it's just the dang camera!) but I thought this was a pretty cool pic. This is my offical Taste Tester/Someone kicking my butt in bowling. My family of champion bowlers would be ashamed. I demand a rematch!
