swelling feet and hands toddler

my niece recently is at the hospital because she starting having a rash then her feet and hand swolled up the first time she was taken to hospital they told her to give her benadryl and motrin since it maybe an allergy reaction to something now she is back at the hospital since the swelling on hands and feet has not gone down they look purple she is taken a type of steroid for the swelling what is this virus that could be cauisng this and why?
