The sermon at church today touched upon the idea that one's value is not measured by degrees, titles or wealth, but on the way that you touch the lives of others. I wish that this philosophy were believed by everyone. Think about how the world would change if this were a widespread mind set. I would have no fears about Stella's acceptance in a world such as that. If only we were judged by our souls, by our abilities, by our mind set rather than more superficial values.
People often talk about if they would remove their kid's extra chromosome. I wouldn't. I would remove hatred and small mindedness from the world. I'd remove the challenges that are set in place by those who are unwilling to level the playing field. I would remove the barriers between "normal" and "special". But I wouldn't remove the extra chromosome from our daughter because
she's not the one with the skewed priorities.
