what causes bronco-pneumonia in childern less than 10 years old?

My nine year old son has been coughing for the past 3 weeks. He was taken to a doctor at the second week of his cough and was said to be suffering from bronco-pneumonia and given antibiotics for two-weeks. He went back for a review and was set to be recovering nicely and but he is stil coughing. What causes it and how can it be prevented? Should he be taken to a Physiotherapy for another review at his cough? He eats properly but seems to be tired some of the times without doing any running around.
