I just discover that cheese is a sure-fire trigger for a migraine in me. I have always loved cheese, especially those little cube ones you just pop in your mouth. Also fun to eat. I have always known that cheese and aged cheese can be a migraine trigger for some. About ten years ago I discovered that chocolate was a trigger for me, so I decided to give it up. I would only get a migraine if I ate a lot of it, like a whole candy bar. But besides chocolate I have not really been able to find a food trigger in me. I have read many books where they talk about what one should eat and not eat if they suffer with migraines.
Well, with my recent few good months of almost no migraines and even daily head pain very low, I decided to try something. After my last post, return of the monster, I thought something was weird. I was having such a good run, what went wrong? A few days after that post I ate some cheese, those cubes, like maybe 6 pieces. I was feeling good but within like seven hours, I started to feel bad again. Head pain with the classic signs that this one was turning into a migraine. For me that is eye pain, stiff neck, weak arms and legs, dizzy, feeling like I just ran a marathon. So I was asking myself, why am I getting a migraine. I had not done anything that would have caused a migraine or exposed myself to any other triggers I have like loud music, perfume, bright sun light. So I took my med and just went on with my normal routine.
Yesterday afternoon I had some of those cheese cubs again for a snack with a apple. And before bed I started to feel sick again. Like here we go again, another migraine. This time it was less than five hours had went by. I started to think again, what went wrong this time. And that was when it hit me. I got a migraine the last time I ate cheese and with this one I started thinking. I have not ate this much cheese in a long time. Maybe a slice on a sandwich but that's all.
I feel ever confident that cheese just like chocolate is a trigger for me. Its nice to know that now I have another thing on my list of things to avoid getting a migraine. I just hope I don't ever learn that ice cream is a trigger also.
