Is Capitalism Really the Problem (Capitalism, A Love Story Review)

Capitalism: A Love Story is one of the best films I have seen in a long time. I spent most of the time laughing but there were some real surprising points made in the film particularly about corporations like Wal-Mart taking out death (life) insurance policies on their "peasants" (employees) so they make money when they die. Whoa, Wal-Mart wants it all hunh. The movie was not surprising to me in the information they were giving as I understand the system we have in America. Judges get paid by corporations to throw kids in prison, politicians are servants of bankers and other big business interests, banks making sub-prime loans with adjustable rates and higher payments (people do not find out until later on). He also mentioned how our general economic system is set-up to benefit the few instead of the masses. However, we really cannot blame government and corporations for making money off our ignorance. Yeah we were all programmed and dumb downed via education but it comes a point where we have to get informed and empowered and make the system work for us. From a health perspective, corporations wants us to be sick and broke so to make money off us through selling fraudulent weight loss solutions, saddling us with medical debt, and drugging and cutting us. However we do not have to participate in this scheme to our detriment. They also want us to be broke and financially illiterate to keep this whole system going and to also put money into their clever schemes.

However, I feel it is time that we place the responsibility on ourselves and get informed so we can be empowered to create better lives for ourselves and not be victims of the system (system can only victimize us if we let it). The rich do not exploit the poor, the poor are easily exploited because of their ignorance and "poor victim" mentality. This mentality is prevalent in the "middle class" too. We create our lives and it is time that we all embrace our unlimited potential and power. Nevertheless, I commend Michael Moore for making this movie but the simple fact that there were only 25 or less people in the theatre tells me that the system he has alluded on will not change because the people are not ready for change or unwilling to change. The people were expecting a hundred grand but were really being sold some spare change (a penny and a nickel) in this last presidential election. However it is not Obama's fault because Obama cannot create real change in this country. The change is within all of us and the choice has always been in our corner.
