I have a sore white spot on my tongue what is it how do I get it to go away?

 About a day ago I noticed that one of my taste buds (i guess thats what it is) on the top of my tongue was a little sore and after aching for over a day it's turned into a white spot that hurts pretty bad now so what do I do to help it go away? What food/drink should I avoid? I bite my lip often and get the white sores can that happen to my tongue to because I don't remember biting it.

From what I've found out since my post I'm thinking it's a tongue ulcer is that a good estimation?
