Metformin and smoking cessation

I have recently been put on Metformin twice daily 500 mg as I'm weaning off insulin. I noticed right away that my appetite changed. I found that while I still got hungry it took far less to satisfy me than before. While this was most welcome since I have a few pounds to lose I also noticed something else. I have been a smoker for 23 years and within a week of starting Metformin I noticed I was smoking less and less until about ten days passed. At that point I was down to one cigarette a day that I couldn't bring myself to finish until I just threw the pack away. I have been unable to find any published material linking Metformin with cessation of smoking but it seems that if Metformin affects the part of the brain that causes us to over eat maybe it affects the same area that causes us to smoke for pleasure or the oral fixation of it. Has anyone out there had a similar experience or am I just an oddball?
