Wasted...

Posted Jun 15 2009 6:29pm

Today I did a lot of things and accomplished nothing. I wrote many half stories, and out lines and ideas but didn't finish a thing.
I wrote of a haggard woman who had reached middle age too soon and begrudged every single quarter she had to feed into the coin operated washing machine in her apartment basement. She was angry that at 43 years of age she still had to choose between clean underwear or a fast food meal. She never left the basement. I abandoned the poor thing during the spin cycle.
I sketched out many ideas for a new skin for Crunchy Bits and ended up doodling martian flowers and robot lovers. Neither of which I want for a blog skin.
I told myself I had to do something concrete today and I made cookies. Cookies are good, but they really don't count. I vacuumed the floor, did the dishes and cleaned off my desk.
I wrote a long, meandering blog entry about my love of books and words in general. Dancing, leaping, sly, slithering, diaphanous, clunking, screeching and sonambulant words and how I hate when I use the word 'very' when I write. Then I deleted it. It was very pompous and very boring.
I went to Shelle's after band camp show so I could see her dance and whirl with satin flags, but first I had to sit through the parent's orientation meeting. I lost interest after the third time the same mom asked a ridiculous question and spent the next 20 minutes doodling little people that looked as if they had climbed out of Charles Addams' basement. Why do all of my people look like that lately? Small and round with big eyes and myopic grins, and all of them looking as if they would gladly eat your fingers wrapped in filo dough and sprinkled with sugar as a delicate desert.
My day rambled and ambled and slid along and never really went any where. Now it's almost 9:00 in the evening. The time for wrapping things up and immersing myself in cool sheets and a good book.
