what could be the possible cause for bleeding in stool?

I had bleeding in stool. Should i wait and watch or consult a physician right away? what could be the possible cause? I have had a stressful schedule for past few days and my stomach is bloated with gas. My eating habits are irregular. I am 25yrs old female.
