What would cause pain in the left side of my lower abdomen

I have been having pain in my lower side of my stomach since my hysterectomy.After exercising my stomach will swell up some times so much i look like I'm 3 months pregnant. It gets very tender and feels like their is something there. I have talked to my Dr. and they cant seem to tell me why this is happening. I had my hysterectomy 5 years ago.
