I'm still looking!

Posted Oct 15 2009 10:00pm
...for the damned cord for my camera so I can get some pictures on here. It's here in the office somewhere, but if you could see this place you'd see what a post-move dumping ground it has become. There is no rhyme or reason for what is in here. It is all waiting for some type of shelf/storage unit to appear.

Will is getting taller (in trunk only...legs are staying shorter i.e. top is size 4, pants are size 3 still). Will did a self haircut when he found some school scissors in our house. I took a picture of that and now I've gone and had his hair cut sooo short to kind of disguise the section of hair that he cut right at the top center of his noggin. The hairdresser could not get as close as Will did without clippers. I'm surprised he didn't scalp himself. I don't like Will's hair so short...I guess it makes me think of an institutional haircut as maintenance for kids with special needs. I'll be glad when more of his blond locks return.

In the meantime, I'm still getting the nest feathered here. I know, I know, how long can it take, right? Well, apparently multiple weeks. I do like to imagine the day when all the stuff is done here and I can linger over a cup of coffee and regale you with all of life's little tidbits. Right now it would be about ceramic tiles and Berber area rugs and if I had the ability to download pictures I could show you the fabric samples of the furniture that is coming. It's all very practically neutral because I don't want to do this again for a long time. (I will note that the family room furniture is going to be Sunbrella fabric, which is supposedly unstainable. That seemed like a good idea to me, and probably to you too if you have been reading this blog long enough to recall the marker art of the leather sofa, or the lovely down-filled sofa sporting a nice outline of green marker.)
Gone is the mishmash of various furniture that has followed us through 6 homes and now we are working on keeping things fluid through the open concept house we are (hopefully) settled in for the long haul. One older couch has found a home with a Colorado neighbour, another is wonderful in the downstairs rec. room. A pair of side chairs from Mark's grandparents are getting a face lift and a new life. Now they won't be stuck in unserviceable corners throughout the house and will become a feature of the main floor.
So, while all the decorating stuff is fun, it does tie up your days. New homes are like that...with a long list of "to dos", like blinds, paint and carpets and the little fixes that need to be done by the builder.

I am also working on getting our government health cards. I think we have found a doctor who will take us on as patients, but we can't register without the magic card. I want to get set up in time to have the kids immunized for the H1N1. I'm still on the fence about getting it done though. What are you doing about the vaccine? Is this a scheme by the drug company and the rushed vaccines may prove unsafe, or is this a no brainer when reading about all the healthy kids and women who are falling victim to this flu?

I have also found some more books for Will that I will share when I get a moment. (did you just say "yeah, right"?)

I'm off to do a floor mopping experiment. Our floor is a very dark wood and keeping it clean has become a little more of a challenge than I have time for. I had been using a steam mop, but streaks are showing up post-mop. I suspect that the micro-fiber pads are to blame. I use clean ones each time, but they seem to leave a film on the floor. I'm going to add some vinegar to the water chamber and see if that cuts the film. I'll report back on that.
