Waiting for Dad

This weekend it is D.Q.'s turn to go backpacking with her dad, so Kellen and I are home spending lots of time together. His dad has provided so much for him in the way of security and comfort lately and Kellen is having a rough time without him. Last night he stood in the driveway for a couple of hours waiting for "the red truck". I kept trying to coax him into the house, but he is nothing if not determined. Unfortunately, no amount of determination would bring dad home.



Finally I talked him into a 9pm run to Wendy's for his favorite spicy chicken sandwich. We also stopped at Wal-Mart so he could buy a Pepsi out of the machine, "all by himself." The trip out seemed to help him "reset" and he was able to go to bed.



Today has been fun. We took our dog with us for a long drive along the water and ended up at my favorite dahlia garden. Kellen was very patient as I took lots of pictures and he really enjoyed watching two artists painting the flowers.



Tomorrow dad will come home and all will be right again in his world.
