Dr. Geoff Rutledge began his career as a physician, who carried out research in Medical Informatics. He transitioned from faculty positions at Stanford and Harvard medical schools when he realized that the Internet would become a powerful tool to enable people to learn about and manage their own healthcare.
Geoff built the online consumer health service at Healtheon corporation (now WebMD.com), which demonstrated the power of health-related information on the Internet to guide people to make informed health care choices. He joined Wellsphere to take the next step: help build networks of people who would support each other to improve their health and achieve their wellness goals.
Geoff keeps fit by bicycling, roller blading, and running, usually with his full time activity partner Katie, a Belgian Malinois (Katie, the 'Well Dog,' who serves as the very dynamic Wellsphere mascot). Geoff's canine activity buddy encourages him to keep up with his program of aerobic activity. Actually, she demands it!
Geoff is enthusiastic about helping others achieve relaxation through free flight (really, just ask him!). Geoff recharges his batteries by flying his hang glider every time he has the chance, in the airspace above Fort Funston, Mount Tamalpais, Lake Tahoe, and numerous other mountain flying sites. He claims that hanging out at two thousand feet above the city is incredibly relaxing, and offers to show others how they can learn this wonderful sport.
At Wellsphere, he doubles as chief handyman, onsite physician, and of course, caretaker of our beloved company mascot Katie.
