As mentioned, Ivan and I decided the group’s route last night. With so many of us doing either the Marine Corp Marathon or 10k this weekend, we thought it’d be appropriate to take a(nother) sneak peek at the course.
Our 5.5 mile adventure started at the Smithsonian Metro, looped around Iwo Jima Memorial (up the Hill), and back. On the way? You pass the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial, and Arlington Cemetery. Have I mentioned I love running in DC?
I’ve done this route a few times, so it wasn’t “new”. The race-preview run probably should’ve been easy, but we may have thrown a few tempo paces in there. Blame the legs! They do whatever they want; I’ve learned I have very little say in those crazy muscles. As long as I don’t battle them with too much conversation ( hello side-ache!), this is fine by me…..
8:13 – 8:03 – 8:30
Over to the memorial, up the hill (you can see where that is),
checking out all the things already set up! They have bleachers ready right
where the finish line is. I’m ready to do some spectating after my short 6.2!
8:05 –7:44, 7:38 (0.3)
I was more on my own for these miles, finishing strong
albeit a little on the tired side….
Ivan sprints faster than me; so I waited for him (chasing? works like a charm):
5:03 (sprint, 0.15)
Totals: 5.5 mi - 43:45 – avg 8:01 min/mile
Sunday, I am SO ready for you.
********
As is DC and its (continuing) gorgeous weather…..

PERFECT.
*****
GOOD LUCK all you Marathoners!!!
Tons of people from the Striders will be running, and I’ll be cheering them on.
But I’ll also be looking for Amy, Karena, Kenny and some Twitter peeps!
Who else is running? Let me know!
