Mark your calendar for the 2008 Wellness Fair on Thursday, May 1. The Fair, co-sponsored by Stanford Benefits and Stanford Athletics- Physical Education, Recreation and Wellness Program, is now part of the BeWell @ Stanford initiative.
Expanding on last year's success, Arrillaga Center for Sports and Recreation will be transformed into a place where you can get health screenings, information, try activities and learn to Get Active. Eat Better. Unwind.
Fair participants will have many options. Here are some of them:
-Take one or more health screenings provided by Stanford's health care partners
-blood pressure, body fat, bone density, cholesterol* and blood sugar
-Watch a healthy food demonstration and taste the result
-Climb the rock wall
-Try out cardio equipment: stationary bike, elliptical trainer and/or rowing machine
-Sit at an ergonomically correct workstation to make sure work your posture is healthy
-Test your sunglasses for UV protection
-Find out if you have sun-damaged skin and learn to protect it
-Get a massage
-Look for new ways to exercise ? observe a Pilates or yoga class; watch demonstrations of tai chi, belly dancing, fencing, table tennis and more.
-See the second annual battle of the sexes squash match.
Outside, participants will be able to:
-Get a bike safety check or test ride a custom-configured bike provided by the Campus Bike Shop
-Register your bike with Stanford?s Parking & Transportation Services
-Donate blood at the Stanford Blood Mobile*
There will be giveaways for all participants as well as drawings for larger prizes.
*Schedule an Appointment
Avoid lines by scheduling an appointment in advance for the cholesterol test and to donate blood. Here's how:
--Cholesterol Test: Go to www.wellcall.com. First-time users must register (password: stanford). Click on Wellschedule to schedule your time. You do not have to fast for this test.
--Stanford Blood Mobile: Go to http://bloodcenter.stanford.edu. Search by city and find Stanford, then schedule your time. On May 1 the Stanford Blood Mobile will be parked on Galvez, just outside Arrillaga Rec Center.
