Being On Point With Our Fat

I recently was asked a form of the following question by a colleague of mine who was dieting.

"How many grams of fat are in an ounce, cooked piece of London Broil? How many grams of fat in an ounce, cooked piece of Sirloin?"

While I can appreciate the due diligence that this person has when it comes to their dieting I think we're missing the boat. Fat is a interesting nutrient.

While we can obviously store endless amounts of fat I just don't think that our body is going to handle our omega-3's in the same capacity that it will handle the rest of our fats.

I haven't seen any recent research on this but just think about the effects of a long term low carb diet. We're going to use fat for a fuel source, we will have some sort of "fat turnover" so to speak.

I'm only speaking from personal experience but everyone who I've dieted to low body fat levels have all had more fat then most people would think.

Now do I think you have to watch your fat when you are trying to go from 10% bodyfat to 6%? Yes but that doesn't apply to most people.

Be conscience about your carbs and protein but I think we should slack provided we are getting our fats from healthy sources. Not pizza, not jr bacon cheeseburgers.

It's time that we stop analyzing the small pieces and focus on the whole.
