According to a 2006 study at the University of Sydney in Australia, an 8-week full-body resistance and aerobic exercise program for breast cancer survivors is both safe and effective. The study was conducted using 27 survivors with prior upper body conditioning. There was significant improvements in both upper and lower body strength, endurance and flexibility. Also, there were no incidents of lymphedema or injury. This is great news for breast cancer survivors! Many are afraid to exercise after such a tramatic event in their lives. If you have no prior exercise conditioning, talk to your physician and work closely with your personal trainer before beginning an exercise program.
