Merry Christmas from Around the World

Posted Dec 25 2008 4:34am

Every Christmas I'm always touched by how people all over the world come together to celebrate on one day. Regardless of your faith, that's pretty freakin' cool. Just for fun, we've compiled a list of how to wish someone Merry Christmas in a number of languages. It's sure to give your mouth a workout and your belly a good laugh as some of them are not easy to say.

Arabic:Milad Majid

British:Happy Christmas (Okay, so this one isn't another language, but we like the Brits and wanted to include it.)

Chinese:Kung His Hsin Nien bing Chu Shen Tan (Mandarin) and Gun Tso Sun Tan'Gung Haw Sun (Catonese)

Creole:Jwaye Nowel or Jesus Edo Bri'cho o Rish D'Shato Brichto

Dutch: V rolijk Kerstfeest en een Gelukkig Nieuwjaar

Finnish:Hyvaa joulua

German:Fröhliche Weihnachten

Greek:Kala Christouyenna

Hebrew:Mo'adim Lesimkha Chena tova

Hawaian:Mele Kalikimaka ame Hauoli Makahiki Hou

Italian:Buone Feste Natalizie

Japanese:Shinnen omedeto. Kurisumasu Omedeto

Korean:Sung Tan Chuk Ha

Navajo:Merry Keshmish (my personal fave)

Spanish:Feliz Navidad

Philipines:Maligayan Pasko

Polish:Wesolych Swiat Bozego Narodzenia

Portuguese:Feliz Natal

Russian:Pozdrevlyayu s prazdnikom Rozhdestva is Novim Godom

Swedish:God Jul and (Och) Ett Gott Nytt År(I have no idea why "Och" is in parenthesis. Maybe this is painful to say?)

Thai:Sawadee Pee Maiorsouksan wan Christmas

Turkish:Noeliniz Ve Yeni Yiliniz Kutlu Olsun

Vietnamese:Chuc Mung Giang Sinh

However you want to say it, have a great holiday! — Jenn
