Myth Buster: Does Exercising on an Empty Stomach Burn More Calories?

Posted by Lela D.

Nope. According to registered dietician Karen Brewton in a recent Oxy magazine article, you need to eat something 30 minutes before heading to the gym. At least a little something like a breakfast bar or yogurt. If you exercise in the morning, you'll need a light breakfast first. And if you work out after work, make sure you get something in your system if it's been five or more hours since lunch. Plus, breakfast gets your metabolism going. Don't skip it!

Working out on a empty stomach with low blood sugar=low energy and no fun!
I've heard not to eat before working out thing before and I always have an awful workout when I try it. It's good to know my instincts about eating before hand were right. Thanks for the info.
