Perform Better Seminar Review Day 1
The very first presentation of the Perform Better Providence seminar 07 was Thomas Plummer on "The Business of Fitness". Thomas Plummer is international known as the man to go to if you want to properly open, manage and successful run your own fitness facility . Here's some great point he brought up:
-Let's dress better as fitness professionals, you shouldn't be wearing tank tops or tight shorts. You more or less get $60-100 bucks to look like a homeless man.
-Money is how you feel about yourself. Unfortunately , most people are just greedy and think they're worth more. Even worse, those people get the money.
-Succeeding in this or any industry is simple, according to Plummer . Know more about anything then anyone else and you'll succeed.
-To produce successfully, you need to maximize your 50 successful hours a week, anything else is an energy leak.
Martin Rooney's "Strength Training for Speed" was an interesting presentation . Martin really brought home the point that we're an out off shape society and that we need to stop worrying about lifting heavy when we can't even master body weight training. Simple ground based moves work better at times.
Next was Todd Wright, the University of Texas strength coach. Todd's presentation was one that I was really looking forward to. The main point of Todd's presentation was that athletes have transformational zones. Task specific movements that lead to power movement during the very next step.
Todd showed numerous video of this years number 1 or 2 NBA draft pick Kevin Durant defying movement basics by jumping off of a plantarflexed and inverted ankle which results in badly sprained ankles for 99% of us. Athletes are a better sense of proprioception which allows them to move in ways that no one else can.
Todd also went into how too many people look at the site of pain. I've been saying this for awhile and Todd showed numerous examples of how chronic injuries are fixed by looking at the feet.
Following Todd was Bill Parisi . Bill presented on "The Art of Networking". While Bill didn't get too deep into networking, he did offer a very refreshing look into how he built one of the more well known performance franchises around today. According to Bill, life is about strategies, believing in yourself and having a laser like focus on your goal. Bill even brought up how you can never ignore or be rude to anyone because you can connect any two people by six other people.
That's a wrap for Day 1, things got very interesting during day 2.......
