The Fall 5

Posted Nov 29 2008 12:27pm
Think that college freshmen are the only ones at risk for putting on weight from summer to winter? Think again, we all are! Forget about the Freshmen 15, for working professionals it's...

the Fall 5

Okay, I am exaggerating about a fifteen pound Fall weight gain, I just couldn't come up with a more creative title. But seriously, it has been documented that people can put on anywhere between 5 and 7 pounds during the holiday season.

Most recent studies state that the majority of us will put on at least one pound. You may think that a little weight gain is not a big deal, but the problem grows as we typically do not rid ourselves of all of our holiday jolliness. This is a vicious cycle that sneaks up on you and your waist band as the years go by.

We cannot put all the blame on the holiday food... MMMM, the holiday food. We do our best grizzly bear impressions by going into this deep fall/winter hibernation. The weather is colder, the days get shorter, every person you know will throw a holiday party, the innate stress of the season, and end of the year quota efforts.

This year, I challenge you tochange your mindset about your holiday health plan. Even pretend you live in a climate where you cannot cover up with layers! Look to maintain a realistic base of health, fitness, and nutrition so that you are ahead of the game come the new year rather than making up lost ground.

If you still are not motivated, just think about how badly you don't want to feel like the Great Pumpkin, Butterball Turkey, or glazed ham being served at your family get together this year.
