Three Things To Look For In A Personal Trainer - #1

Posted Mar 11 2009 3:59pm

#1 Their head is bigger than their arm!

(As Donald Trump would say - You're Fired!)

I want you to have a super smart trainer with an egghead and huge brain - YOU should too!

A trainer that is book smart, up on the latest research, and can break concepts down for you in a digestible & practical way.

Three things I look for in trainers I hire are:

1. Degrees
  • Do they have a 4 year degree in health, exercise science, nutrition or anything related?

2. Certifications
  • Is it current or expired?
  • When did they originally get certified?
  • Do they have a variety of different certifications (flexibility, spinning, Pilates, etc.)
  • Do they have plans for pursuing other certifications?

3. Continuing Education
  • Does their place of work have a continuing educational platform where they are always learning, growing, and being evaluated?
  • Do they regularly attend professional conferences?
  • Are they members of fitness and personal training organizations?
  • Do they read and research the most up-to-date information available?
  • Do they have subscriptions to industry journals and newsletters?

Come back tomorrow for #2!
