Two Days to Go Until the Monumental Half-Marathon

Posted Nov 05 2009 10:02pm
That's right, today and tomorrow is all that is left until the Monumental Half-Marathon kicks off at 8am on Saturday morning. I'm really nervous, but I've done 11 miles in training, why wouldn't I be able to do 2.1 more miles? My bib is number 5029 according to the confirmation site and I'm just really ready to run.

Tapering is weird. I've never felt like I should eat a bunch of carbs and not workout, but that's what I'm doing. I had a really encouraging e-mail at the beginning of this week from my trainer and she said that I should just trust my training and everything else will follow. For a workout on Tuesday I went to the gym and did lighter weight with higher reps followed by 30 minutes on the elliptical. Those 30 minutes on the elliptical were really easy and all I could think was, "That's it?" when I finished. I felt like I should have been working harder or for longer. I guess I really am in good physical shape!

I have lots of wardrobe worries just because the weather is starting to heat up for the run. I'm wearing my hydration belt for the race, but I'm worried it's overkill to have it during the race. I had it during all of the longer training runs though so I'll probably wear it just as a comfort thing. I feel like once I get out there running I'll be great, but it's just the general anxiety of what could go wrong with the race. My goal is just to finish, but I'd love to finish in 2 hours 40 minutes if possible. Tomorrow I'm going to the expo and will be posting pictures, I'm hoping to hear Hal Higdon speak too!

How do you deal with nerves before a big event?

Reminder: A little plug, Let's Get Fit was recently nominated for one of Indiana's Top 50 Blogs! There's a lot of business/marketing/mommy bloggers nominated and I'd love to crack the top 50 so if you could please vote for me here it would be much appreciated!
