What the heck it that?  is dedicated to keeping you up-to-date with the ever evolving equipment of the health and fitness industry. With the emergence of functional, core, and corrective exercise training, there are a lot of funky looking exercise 'toys' being used in today's health club. I will explain what they are, why you would want to use them, and how to get started.


Today's Equipment:
Kettle Bell


What:  

Not the new 'iron hand bag' from Gucci or Louis Vuitton, it's a kettlebell (or girya in Russian). This piece of equipment is so 'old school' that it first appeared in the Russian dictionary in 1704 and  was traditionally made of a cast iron weight. There are kettlebells that go up to 106 lbs each!

Who:

Soviet weightlifting legends and Russian special forces personnel originally trained using kettlebells and now it has been adopted by US elite military and law enforcement units. They are hardcore and you can be too!

Why: 

Called the 'handheld gym' this piece of equipment blends strength, cardio, and flexibility into one fast paced total body workout. It also develops all-purpose strength, endurance, and power for any activity, sport, or fitness event.

How:

The kettlebell is not for beginners, so don't try to ring it without first being instructed by a qualified instructor. Here six basic kettlebell drills you will start with:
