Curious George

Posted Dec 31 2007 8:34am 3 Comments
I was watching one of my son's favourite shows, Curious George, with him this morning and I noticed that even though it is a TV show, which means he's sitting and watching (and not active), it does promote healthy activity. Not only does it promote curiosity and learning, but it promotes exercise. The Man in the Yellow Hat walks everywhere in the city and jogs to keep healthy and George is always on the move, exploring and playing. They eat very well, munching on fruit for snacks and various types of foods for meals. George even learned about how gardens grow in one episode, watching the process from planting seeds to making soup with vegetables. I give Curious George the big thumbs up for promotion of healthy lifestyle!

Good point, especially since so many studies have noted all the advertisements for unhealthy stuff--junk food, overt pandering to consumerist culture--that tend to get featured in the midst of cartoons and shows for kids. Good on George! :)
That's the wonderful side of toddler cartoons, Nirmala--no commercials!
I love Curious George. The kids like to watch him and explore around the house afterwards. Although I don't know how many times I see the doughnut episode, then I get, "mommy, let's get doughnuts!" It's all good though. You're right. We like to read the original stories too.
