Step One

Decide what "healthy eating" means to you and your family. For some, that includes sitting down together at the table. It may mean eating a variety of fruits and vegetables each day, eating plenty of protein, eating whole grains. It may have to do with portion control. It may be more about what you don't eat...sugar, carbs, pesticides, processed foods. This part is completely individual, and important to lay out for yourself.

Lis, thanks for the invite - I will definitely join this groupl. When you start to think about raising healthy eaters it's such a win-win-win situation. You are getting so many other benefits out of feeding kids healthy foods. It's also economical! I started out with my first born making mashed peas and sweet potatoes at home instead of buying jars of baby food. Neccesity was the mother of invention on that - we were going from two incomes to one - but it was also nice to know that he wasn't getting all that sodium and who know's what else. I don't think many parents stop to think that a $0.40 bag of dried peas is worth about $10 in prepared baby food!
