At the moment I am really suffering with hayfever – though I suppose that that name alone is misleading as there isn’t any hay around! This is really affecting my enjoyment of my garden.
For over a week now I have had a streaming eye – thats one eye, the right hand one isnt affected! (very strange)and an itchy throat. It looks like I am permenently crying – my bloggy friends who I met at Malvern Spring Show on Friday will testify to this. I have some perscription anti-hystermine tablets but I’m not sure how much good they are. My conclusions are that currently I am having a reaction to Beech. I planted a Beech hedge in my front garden about 3 years ago and the other day when I finally made myself tidy up the front garden I could hardly see as my eye was running so much. I also park under a Beech hedge at work and am always affected when I get out of the car. However, on investigating this today via the National Pollen Unit, Beech isn’t listed presumably as isn’t a real cause for ‘hayfever’ but Birch is listed. I also have a Birch tree in my front garden – a gift from my boys so maybe this is the cause. Just to add to my misery the Rape fields have just come out into flower and I have to pass a number on the way to work so by the time I get here I my makeup (such as it is) has suffered even more than usual!!!
As the National Pollen Unit is based where I work I could go and get it checked out but this would probably mean some unpleasant tests and then they might try and persuade me to take part in trials etc. So I think I will stick to wearing sunglasses (these seem to reduce the amount of crying when I am driving), taking the tablets and drinking honey dissolved in water (helps with the itchy throat). If any one has any tips or advice it would be really welcome – with the exception of staying indoors with the windows shut!!
