Could my husband have low blood sugar or diabetes?

My husband sporadically has slurred speech and last night was slurring his speech but also disoriented (bumping into walls, knocking over a lamp) I know he has not been drinking, it's almost like he cannot finish a sentence. He claims he's tired. Could this be a sign of diabetes or low blood sugar? I should mention he is overweight and is not as active as he should be.
