Daycare Germ Wars

Posted Oct 01 08 10:44pm

This morning, Substitute Sitter Mrs. M. reported that Other Mother complained that I had taken Son to the house with "whooping cough" last week. (Uhm, I called it a mild cold, but OK, whatever).

Other Mother heard Son coughing Friday and requested that Mrs. M. ban him from the house until he was well. Mrs. M. suggested instead that Other Mother stay home with her child if she worried about germs. Other Mother called Mrs. M. Saturday to report that her child had a fever, and it was all Son's fault.

This morning, I did what any self-respecting mom would do. I dosed Son up with Tylenol and Delsym, wiped the big green boogers from his nose, dropped him off at the sitter and ran.

I'm a bit worried about the next time I see Other Mother. Will she want to rumble?

As much as I complain about Regular Sitter, I do like her open policy that kids can come as sick as they want, and if it bothers other parents they can take their kids elsewhere. Son has gotten some good exposure to germs there, and I think he'll probably be healthier for it. She comes back March 1st. Son and I will kiss her, on the mouth, even if we have cooties.
