Exercise, Hypogycemia and Type 1 Diabetes

Posted Nov 27 08 10:06am 1 Comment
Diabetics are always told to exercise. But those with type 1 diabetes, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is one risk they have to take when exercising. Exercise-induced hypoglycemia comes with risks including loss of consciousness.

Thus hypoglycemia is one barrier that keeps people with type 1 diabetes from exercising. Such is the findings of a new study.

According to Dr. Rémi Rabasa-Lhoret, co-author of the study, a professor at the Université de Montréal's Faculty of Medicine and an endocrinologist at the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM):

"Our findings confirmed our clinical suspicion. Exercise has been proven to improve health and one would assume diabetics would remain active. Yet our findings indicate that type 1 diabetics, much like the general public, are not completely comfortable with exercise."

This is probably the one case wherein exercise comes in health risks. See full article.

My mother about 89, has hypoglycemia, a walking insulin factory -- there should be a simple way to rid this insulin (at least half), so she could get her life back to normal, to get rid of all the shaking, weekness, no energy, sleep, etc...etc...

I need some feed back on what to do.....
