Fish Oil and Cancer

Posted Sep 14 08 6:07pm

For many years I have been reading of cases of cancer that were successfully treated by using large amounts of Omega 3 fish oil. Here is a recent case reported by the University of Nevada of how terminal lung cancer was halted by the use of high-dose fish oil. This is only one dramatic case but there are many well done studies showing widespread benefits ranging from help for cardiovascular disease to depression.

People often ask me, "If I only took one supplement what should it be." This is a difficult question to answer because I am aware of much research that show Americans are nutritionally deficient of many things. They could benefit from a number of supplements.

However, if you only took one I believe it ought to be fish oil in most cases. Since the widespread use of vegetable oils and their heavy promotion by food companies and government agencies, Americans get way too much of the wrong kind of oils.

Omega 6 oils, found in these vegetable oils promote inflammation in the body. Inflammation is an underlying cause in most chronic conditions. 46% of the population suffers from a chronic condition today. We simply don't get the right balance of Omega 6 to Omega 3 oils. We need some Omega 6 Oils but the ratio ought to be somewhere between 1:1 and 2:1. Commonly Americans are consuming between 10:1 to 30:1. This is a very bad health ratio!

Taking fish oil is the best way to fix this. The problem? Most fish oil tastes very fishy and much of it is rancid. Also, most fish oil has large amounts of heavy metals since fish are often highly contaminated with heavy metals.

When Jigsaw Health launched in April of this year, we did not offer an Omega 3 Fish Oil product. We simply could not find a supplier that offered what we wanted. I have been a long-time fan of Carlson's Fish Oil, which you can find in almost every health food store or online, so I just recommended that to friends.

But we continued to search for a supplier and we finally found one that we could work with who provided us with a great fish oil.

While I like the capsules for when I travel, I prefer to use the more concentrated liquid version. I take at least a tablespoon (not a teaspoon) everyday in the morning with breakfast. It is lemon flavored and does not taste "fishy." It is very fresh and is protected from rancidity by antioxidants. It is concentrated so that a tablespoon will provide therapeutic levels of EPA and DHA, the 2 most important Omega 3's. It is also purified in a way that removes all traces of the heavy metals. It is a wonderful product!

Flax Oil is used by many people and is an Omega 3 Oil. However, the body has to convert this type of Omega 3 oil into the more active (and more beneficial) DHA and EPA omega oils. People with chronic conditions often don't make this conversion very well. That is what makes fish oil so great. The DHA and EPA present can instantly be used by the body. The benefits are great for virtually all of the systems of the body.

The American deficiency is widespread. Virtually everyone in America should be taking fish oil every day. Jigsaw Health's new Essential Omega-3 Fish Oil makes this easy and affordable.
