Foot Sprain howlong do sprain last?

I was told yesterday that I have a foot sprain, they thought it might be stress fracture, but nothing show in the x-ray...I just stood up and felt this pain in the left side of my left foot which radiated to the bottom of my foot. How long do sprains last?

I haven't had personal expereiencew with sprains, but my daughter needed about a month to fully recover from a sprain.
